SANCOALE: The Congress staged a protest over the deteriorating condition of the road near DMart at Sancoale, accusing the BJP-led administration of failing to repair the stretch despite repeated demands over the past five years.
Leading the protest, Cortalim Congress leader Mahesh Nadar alleged that the road has remained in a deplorable condition, posing a serious inconvenience and safety risk to commuters, motorists and local residents. Holding placards and raising slogans, Congress workers demanded immediate hotmixing and permanent repairs to the road.
Addressing the media, Nadar criticised the BJP, saying the party frequently speaks about “Mann Ki Baat” but has ignored “Kaam Ki Baat” by failing to address basic civic issues affecting the public. He claimed the road has continued to deteriorate despite several representations and protests by the Congress.
Nadar also pointed out that Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, the Sancoale Panchayat and the Cortalim Zilla Panchayat member all belong to the BJP, yet no concrete steps have been taken to repair the road. He questioned how the authorities could continue to ignore the issue when the stretch is used daily by hundreds of commuters.
He further alleged that the local ZP member and some panchayat members reside near the road but have failed to respond to the grievances of residents. According to him, the damaged road has led to difficulties for motorists, increased wear and tear of vehicles and heightened the risk of accidents, especially during the monsoon.
The Congress demanded that the government immediately sanction funds and undertake permanent repairs. Party leaders warned that if the road is not repaired at the earliest, they will intensify their agitation and continue raising the issue until concrete action is taken. They urged the government to prioritise public safety and provide better road infrastructure for commuters.
