CANACONA – Pre-monsoon rains continue to hit the normal life, while the ongoing much needed Hot-mixing works of Gulem-Balli NH-66 road became the latest to victim.
The unseasonal pre-monsoon rains have been intermittently hitting the taluka since the past week while pouring intermittently again throughout Thursday, especially in the hilly areas of Karmalghat-Padi, where the Hot-Mix NH-66 road works have been underway for the past fortnight, and the works were continued irrespective of the rain-soaked road.
The weather was heavy throughout Thursday, and it was also raining in various parts of the taluka, but as usual Hot-mixing team, which had reached nearby Balli, continued its works.
A few congressmen led by GPCC General Secretary Janardhan Bhandari approached the working team at Balli and asked to stop the works as it would be a futile exercise to Hot-Mix the road amidst rains.
However, the working team asked Bhandari to approach the PWD engineer, and accordingly, Bhandari, after making contact with the lower rings engineers, visited the Executive Engineer National Highway WDXIV (NH), PWD Fatorda Margao.
When Bhandari told the Executive Engineer, D S Kamat, that the Hot-mixing of wet roads is only wasting public money, as no such roads will remain good but get spoiled the very next moments.
According to Bhandari, Kamat, then accepting his reasons, ordered him to immediately stop the Hot-Mix of this Gulem to Balli section of NH road.
The Hot-mixing works, which commenced a fortnight ago at Gulem, were trailing slowly and had reached across the KRC railway bridge near Balli.
Canacona PWD (NH) AE Rajesh Gaude, besides Canacona Congress Block President
