Panaji: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Girish Chodankar has written to His Excellency Governor of Goa Bhagat Singh Koshyari demanding dismissal of Dr. Pramod Sawant led government over its failure to handle the Covid-19 pandemic.
Chodankar in his letter addressed to the Governor has pointed out that over 2,000 beloved innocent Goans have died and continue to die for want of oxygen, ventilator beds, essential medicines and hospital beds.
“While all the Chief Ministers in the Country took effective steps to control the pandemic through lock-down and curfews and by procuring not only essential drugs and all important oxygen needed by the covid affected people, our Hon’ble Chief Minister continued to redicule us all. He created a false impression by telling the people that they need not be scared of the pandemic. His often repeated rhetoric that “Bhivpachi Garaj Naa “– no one need be afraid – created a sense of complacency among the people of Goa and invited everyone from the rest of the Country to come to Goa,” Congress president said in the letter to Governor.
“People from different States reeling under Covid -19 made a beeline to Goa by all modes of transportation and thronged our beaches, night clubs, Casinos and Hotels along the beach. It was obvious that your Govt was refusing to impose lock down or curfew as they wanted to pander to these lobbies obviously for consideration. Goa Tourism Minister complimented the Chief Minister with his slogan “Show must go on”,” he added.
Girish Chodankar has also tried to draw the attention of the Governor over the tussle and public fight between the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Shri Vishwajit Rane.
“Goans have lost confidence in your Govt. The existing poor facilities have been stretched too far to provide any solace to the people of Goa. The non–govt agencies and individuals including our partymen have been relentlessly and selflessly rendering their services to the affected people and their families. Your Govt agencies are busy harassing them instead of enlisting them as volunteers. As such we are of a firm view that allowing your corrupt, defective, insensitive and ineffective Govt to continue in office will be inviting further misfortune to the State in terms of suffering of people due to Covid-19 and collapse of economy,” He Said.
Congress president said that there is complete breakdown of the constitutional machinery as the present State Government under incompetent Chief Minister has completely failed perform their basic Constitutional duty to protect basic fundamental right of the people enshrined under Article 21 of the Constitution of India i.e RIGHT TO LIFE.
Chodankar also drawn attention of the Governor of unpreparedness for Cyclone TAUKTAE which was predicted much in advanced.
“While making important decisions with regards to the larger interest of the State, the Chief Minister’s business interest has been clashing with state’s interest which has affected lives, health and economic interest of the State. We therefore demand immediate dismissal of your Government headed by Dr. Pramod Sawant and to launch an investigation into the acts of commission and commission indulged into by your ministers for ulterior motives,” Chodankar demanded.
