Mapusa: A Goa police constable has been convicted by a Mapusa court in connection with a 2011 case involving unnatural sex and outraging the modesty of a woman who was brought to the Mapusa police station after being rescued from the town.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on August 13, 2011, when the constable, then attached to the Mapusa police station, allegedly abused the woman with vulgar language, made obscene remarks, and assaulted her by touching her inappropriately. He later forcefully engaged in oral sex with the survivor and threatened her with dire consequences.
The prosecution further stated that the constable told the woman that no one would believe her, asserting that he was right and she was wrong.
The case was investigated by then Crime Branch Police Inspector Sunita Sawant, currently serving as Superintendent of Police, Anti-Narcotics Cell. A chargesheet was subsequently filed against the constable, who had pleaded not guilty during trial.
The court, after evaluating the evidence, found the constable guilty and pronounced the conviction.
