ZUARINAGAR: Verna Police have registered a case against a contractor and a site supervisor following the death of a construction labourer after a wooden plank allegedly fell on his head at an under-construction building near MES College, Zuarinagar, on October 17.
The deceased has been identified as Huchhappa Sonakappa, a native of Karnataka residing at Dabolim.
According to the police complaint lodged by PSI Aditya Velip of Verna Police Station, the contractor, Santosh Hiremath, a resident near MES College, Zuarinagar, and the supervisor, Ajay Kumar Ray, a resident of Candolim, allegedly acted negligently by failing to provide essential safety equipment, including helmets and safety harnesses, to labourers working at the site.
The complaint further states that the accused allegedly failed to properly secure a wooden plank between the construction lift framework and the concrete portion of the building. During the operation of the lift, vibrations reportedly caused the plank to slip and fall on Sonakappa, who was working on the ground nearby.
The labourer sustained head injuries and subsequently succumbed to them.
Verna Police have registered an FIR under Crime No. 124/2026 under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the alleged negligence.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Aditya Velip of Verna Police Station.
