VASCO: Vasco Police have registered a case against a contractor after a labourer died following a fall from the second floor of a house under renovation near the Goa State Co-operative Bank at New Vaddem, Vasco.
According to police, the incident occurred on July 6 at around 2.12 pm. The accused, Hapich Hossain, a resident of Shantinagar, Vasco, originally from Cooch Behar, West Bengal, had allegedly engaged mason/labourer Altab Mian, a resident of New Vaddem and a native of West Bengal, to remove metal plates erected over wooden scaffolding on the second floor of the building.
Police alleged that the contractor failed to provide adequate safety measures and protective equipment, including safety belts, helmets and proper fall-protection arrangements, and permitted the labourer to work at height under unsafe conditions.
During the work, Altab Mian allegedly lost his balance and fell from the second floor, sustaining serious injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Vasco Police have registered a case, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Akanksh Fadte Dessai.
