MARGAO: Former GPCC chief Amit Patkar has called for a change in leadership in Curchorem, alleging that the constituency has been neglected despite its MLA being part of the ruling party for the last 15 years.
“The kind of things we are witnessing in Curchorem, there is a need to change the MLA. He has been in the ruling party for the last 15 years, but has failed to provide even basic amenities,” Patkar said.
He claimed that residents of Curchorem are aware of the alleged neglect and pointed out the constituency’s significant contribution to Goa’s economy during the peak of mining activity.
“It is a constituency that has contributed maximum revenue to the state when mining was at its peak,” Patkar said.
Meanwhile, Patkar also expressed disappointment over Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s recent visit, saying he learnt about the visit through the media.
“I wholeheartedly welcome our Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. But unfortunately, I came to know about his arrival through the media. It pains me because I have given my time and energy in building the party organisation,” Patkar said.
Patkar questioned the party’s decision not to take senior leaders into confidence, saying the development had raised doubts in his mind about whether Congress was serious about taking on the BJP in the 2027 Goa Assembly elections.
“If they are not taking senior leaders into confidence, it raises doubt in my mind whether Congress is serious in fighting the 2027 election against the BJP,” he said.
