CURCHOREM: Curchorem residents have demanded from the government to provide rumblers at the end of the Sanvordem-Curchorem bridge over Zuari river, in order to avoid accidents on this busy link.
Speed of the vehicles has become a cause of concern due to the steep incline approaching the bridge at Sanvordem which acts as a steep slope for vehicles proceeding towards that village.
The situation is further aggravated due to the junction at Khamamoll ward in Curchorem soon after the bridge where two other service roads connected and somtime due to continuous flow of the vehicles on the main road many minor accidents are occuring while vhicles entering from the service roads.
In the absence of signboards indicating speed limits, vehicles tend to speed posing a severe threat to other vehicles and pedestrians as no zebra crosssing is marked.
In view of this, locals have asked the authorities to mark the zebra crossing for the pedestrians and erect signboards to regulate the speed limit for the vehicles and also to put rumblers strips on the main road after the bridge.
Meanwhile, people have also demanded construction of a small traiffic island in the shape of a triangle on the main road after crossing the railway over bridge at Morailem ward side as there too two service roads are connected, one proceeding to Curchorem market while other goes to Kamral ward of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC).
Curchorem Cacora Councillor Prasanna Bhende representing Khamamoll ward promised to take up this matter with the council at the next meeting. Meanwhile Clementina Fernandes representing Moraillem ward admitted that rumblers and restrictions are required at this crucial junction.
“I will surely put up this matter at the next council meeting and get it approved for the safety of the people,” she said.
