CURCHOREM: Tanvi Vast, a Curchorem resident, has been detained by the police for allegedly defrauding a woman from Vhodlemol, Kakoda out of Rs 5.5 lakh and gold ornaments valued at Rs 25 lakh, for a total of Rs 30.5 lakh.
Police claim that Rosalina Correia, the victim, was robbed of a number of gold items worth a total of Rs 25 lakh, including a necklace, two chains, five bangles, two bracelets, two rings, and a pair of earrings.
Vast, a representative of an organization at a nationalized bank’s Curchorem branch, is charged with winning Rosalina’s trust and persuading her to trade in her pricey gold jewels for comparable metal objects.
The accused also allegedly transferred Rs 5.5 lakh from the victim’s account to her own using mobile banking.
After a complaint was filed by Correia, the police took immediate action and arrested the accused under sections 305 and 318(4) of BNS 2023.
The police have also learned that several other senior citizens may have fallen victim to similar scams orchestrated by the accused. There has been a delay in taking action as victims of the frauds have been hesitant to come forward and file complaints.
