PANAJI: The Cyber Crime Police Station had registered Case No. 24/2024 u/s 67 & 67-A of the IT Act upon complaint of a lady r/o Margao, South – Goa, that prior to 16/04/2024 TNK at Margao, South – Goa, the accused person user of Instagram account “akshu_jagtap_xx” transmitted obscene material containing sexually explicit act through social media platform, Instagram using electronic sources. He then bullied the victim.
Accused was identified through examination of social media records. A team led by PSI Sarvesh Sawant, PSI Sherwin Dacosta, PC-8265 Ibrahim Karol, Hemant Gaonkar IRB PC 210139, under the supervision of Dy. SP Cyber Crime Ashish, and Rahul Gupta IPS, SP Cyber Crime apprehended the accused after extensive efforts and a long chase, the accused was apprehended from Canacona.
The accused was identified as Mr. Vinay aged 20 years s/o Gopi Gaonkar r/o H.No. 105, Nanem, Gaodongrem, Canacona- South Goa. He is student at ITI and has confessed to his crime.
Chats of the victim and the alleged obscene videos on the accused phone were recovered. Phone will be sent for cyber forensics examination.
Further investigation is ongoing under Dy.SP Ashish Shirodkar, Cyber Crime PS, Ribandar.
The investigation revealed that the accused created Instagram ID using fake name and developed friendship with the complainant and further transmitted objectionable chats and videos through social media platform, Instagram to induce the complainant for sexual favor.
The general public are advised to be cautious of such fake account on social media. Verify the authenticity of any accounts on social media before engaging in video chats or any further communication.
