VASCO: The government intends to make Goa a ‘logistical hub’ in the near future. Dabolim airport will be made a “Cargo hub”, says Minister for Transport Mauvin Godinho.
Speaking to the media, Minister for Transport Mauvin Godinho said that people were worried that after coming of Mopa airport, what would happen to existing Dabolim airport.
“..but I could safely say that Dabolim airport will give still competition to Mopa airport since we have modernised the Dabolim airport by spending over 450 crores and more 250 crores are being utilised for the expansion of this airport,” he added.
Godinho further said that it would be good if both airports worked in coordination wherein more passengers and more Cargo could be handled via both the airports.
He also said that due to the availability of space at Mopa, bigger aircraft could be parked here, and it could also be used for the repairs of the aircraft, which will not have any polluting effect on the surrounding.
Godinho also said that the Goan entrepreneurs who want to expand their businesses and companies need to be encouraged by the government.
“More eco-friendly and logistical industries will come to Goa in the near future. Goa need to be built as a ‘multi-model’ hub like Singapore, Dubai and other countries wherein container cargos and other things are handled on a larger scale, and there are many job opportunities created to take up for which our people go abroad,” he said.
He said if the same jobs are available here, then it will be a win-win situation for the people who will get jobs here,” said Godinho.
