VERNA: Verna Police have registered a case against a young woman and her boyfriend for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth around Rs 2 lakh from the woman’s mother and pledging them to obtain a loan.
According to the complaint filed by Munni Gupta, a resident of Sancoale, she had entrusted her gold ornaments to her daughter Kajal Gupta for safekeeping between February 2026 and March 10, 2026. The complainant alleged that while she was hospitalised, Kajal, with the alleged abetment and inducement of her boyfriend Anand, stole the ornaments from the cupboard.
The accused allegedly eloped together and later pledged the stolen gold in Anand’s name at a finance institution to obtain a loan. The complainant further alleged that the duo misappropriated the loan amount for their personal use, causing her a wrongful loss of approximately Rs 2 lakh.
Verna Police have registered the offence, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Rajdatt Arsekar.
