Margao: A meeting of the District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC) focusing on mental health and suicide prevention in higher education institutions was convened under the leadership of District Magistrate, South Goa, Ms. Egna Cleetus, IAS, at the Kushavati district headquarters.
The session, held in the presence of Director of Higher Education Bhushan Savaikar, brought together representatives from multiple departments including Health, Social Welfare, Law, Tribal Welfare, Technical Education, and the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB). Faculty members and the Director of BITS Pilani also participated in the review.
During the meeting, BITS Pilani showcased a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing student well-being. These included integrating yoga into academic schedules, promoting sports and physical fitness activities, extending access to gym facilities, and organising regular health camps and motivational programmes. The institution also highlighted round-the-clock counselling services available to students through platforms such as Tele-MANAS and Myndwell.
Emphasising the importance of a coordinated approach, the Chairperson urged all departments to work closely and maintain continuous oversight of mental health initiatives. She stressed the need to further strengthen support mechanisms and ensure a holistic environment that prioritises the psychological well-being of students.
