“Berger Becker Coating Pvt. Ltd not to start any kind of operation; presently, consent to operate has been suspended by the board,” sources said.
Sources further said that the company has yet to dispose of hazardous materials.
The company has explained the measures taken to protect the environment.
On the afternoon of January 10, a fire broke out at a paint factory (Berger becker) located in the Pilerne industrial area in Goa state.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but it is believed to have started in one of the storage areas where large quantities of flammable paint and chemicals were stored.
The fire at the factory, which destroyed paints, chemicals and solvents, led to thick black smoke billowing into the sky, which could be seen several kilometres away, and concerns over the adverse health effects of chemical smoke have prompted authorities to advise people to wear a mask as a precautionary measure.
