Calangute:Drishti lifesaver Leslie Rodrigues today nabbed a thief at Calangute who snatched a handbag from a lady in broad daylight and was trying to escape with it. Calangute beach witnessed two thefts today, where tourists were the victims.
Earlier today at around 15.00 hrs, a couple were on a stroll at the popular beach when a man snatched the lady’s handbag and ran with it. 21 year old Drishti Lifesaver Leslie Rodrigues who was patrolling the beach noticed the commotion when the couple called for help. The lifesaver spotted the thief running with the bag and chased him. Leslie caught up with the thief and wrestled him to the group and with the assistance of people pinned the thief to the ground. Meanwhile a call was placed by the lifesaving team to the local police. Lifesaver Leslie handed over the thief to the local police on their arrival and the bag was returned to its owner.
Meanwhile earlier in the day at around 12:30 hrs a tourist who wears an artificial prosthetic leg placed his bags along with his prosthetic leg on the shore while he went for a swim. On his return he was shocked to see his artificial leg on the beach while his bags were stolen. The distraught tourist approached the lifesavers for assistance. An attempt was made by the team to locate the thief but they drew a blank.
Drishti lifesaver Leslie earlier has conducted three rescues in the sea along Calangute beach over the last three weeks.
