COLVA: Drishti Marine lifesavers came to the aid of an injured beachgoer and returned a lost iPhone to its owner during separate incidents at Colva Beach over the weekend.
A 28-year-old resident of Margao sustained an arm injury after a strong wave knocked him off balance while standing near the waterline at Colva Beach. Drishti Marine lifesavers rushed to the spot, administered first aid and later handed him over to the 108 ambulance service for further medical treatment. He was reported to be in stable condition.
In another incident at the same beach, Drishti Marine lifesaver Daudsab found an unattended iPhone during a routine beach patrol. Shortly afterwards, the owner called the device and was directed to the lifeguard tower. After verifying ownership, the mobile phone was returned in the presence of the Beach Marshal.
With the monsoon in full swing, Goa continues to experience rough seas, strong winds and dangerous currents, making the coastline unsafe for swimming. Authorities have reiterated that swimming remains prohibited on Goa’s beaches during the monsoon season, while the annual fishing ban is also in force.
To enhance public safety, Drishti Marine has deployed more than 450 trained lifesavers and beach marshals across major beaches, waterfalls and four inland water bodies in Goa to respond quickly to emergencies and assist visitors.
