MORJIM: Three fishermen were rescued by Drishti Marine lifesavers after their canoe capsized in a river adjoining Morjim Beach on Wednesday afternoon.
The rescue operation was launched at around 12 noon after a local resident alerted the lifesavers about the incident. A jet ski was immediately deployed to the location.
Drishti Marine lifesaver captain Sakaram, along with another lifesaver, rescued two fishermen from the water, while the third fisherman was safely assisted onto an accompanying canoe.
All three fishermen were brought safely to shore and were reported to be in good condition.
The incident comes as Goa experiences the peak of the southwest monsoon, with strong winds, rough seas and turbulent waters making the coastline unsafe for swimming. Swimming remains prohibited along Goa’s beaches during the monsoon season, while the annual fishing ban is also currently in force.
To enhance public safety during the monsoon, Drishti Marine has deployed more than 450 trained lifesavers and beach marshals across Goa’s major beaches, waterfalls and four inland water bodies to respond swiftly to emergencies and assist visitors.
