PONDA: Against the backdrop of rising fatal accidents in Goa due to consumption of Alcohol, Ponda traffic Police began a special drive against drunken driving.
Ponda Traffic PI Krishna Sinhari said We have started the special awareness drive from August 2 and booked 20 drunken driving cases while a total of 80 cases booked from January to July this year.
He urged people to safe driving and not to violate traffic rules.
He urged to avoid drunk driving and also wear a helmet and other necessary gadget during driving. He said a person goes out of sense during drunken driving, and anything can happen while driving.
He said Traffic Police would take strict action against drunken driving in the coming days.
He said under the new motor vehicle act, drunken is punishable with fines of Rs 10,000 and six months imprisonment or with both, and Court has the power to decide cases. Drunk driving cases are produced before the court. He said all 74 drunken driving cases are recommended with RTO for suspension of their licence. RTO has the power to suspend their license for three months.
