CANACONA – The ill-famed Gulem-Karmalghat section of NH-66 is once again in the limelight for mishaps, but this time the culprit isa heavily drunk driver who rammed a 10-tyres Container onto a roadside tree.

The empty 10-tyres container truck bearing registration no. NL-01 L-7946 coming from Hubli was headed to MRF Ponda, is rammed onto a huge roadside by the driver in an ineberated state.
Not only front windshield is broken, but the entire bonnet is mutilated also destroying the cabin.

As the mishap has happened at busy location of Gulem (between two Bus-Stops), locals as well as highway motorists stopped and rushed towards the mishap anticipating injuries to occupants/driver, but were soon held back to see only one hale and hearty person is coming down from the cabin. The lone person due to heavy intoxication however could not stand properly, who when asked about presence of any other occupant, however in a highly ineberated state said no and he is alone and later identified himself as Driver and disclosed his name as Jainindra from UP.

Finding him not in a position to stand properly, when people began to question him why he in a drunken state was driving such a heavy vehicle risking others lives, the driver retorted saying, ‘ Goa mei dharu ke siway aur kya milta? (other than liquor what else you get in Goa?). Hamm mai dharu Piya hu, tum log Kiya karenge, marna hai toh Maro, katlo muje’ (Yes I have drunk liquor, what you can do. If you wants beat me, cut me to pieces!).

The Driver however in the same manner took down a portable Gas Cylinder from the truck cabin, and also after opening one-side of the bonnet, began to do something inside. Thinking the driver is trying to start the truck engine, gathered people were seen trying to convince him not to start the truck engine, as the truck is not in a road condition.

Finding the driver not in listening mood, and people thinking he might do another folly of restarting the truck and driving, police were informed to come at the site and take control of the situation and the drunk driver.

In the meantime, some of locals obtained his phone contact of the truck owner and informed about the incident and the behaviour the driver is doing.

According to sources, though the container is Nagaland registered is reportedly operating in Maharashtra -Goa-Karnataka sector, and Tuesday was coming empty after offloading from Hubli, and was headed to MRF Ponda for next consignment.-
