ANJUNA: A 26-year-old man from Odisha has been booked by Anjuna Police for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, causing a road accident that injured two persons, and fleeing the scene without offering assistance.
According to police, the case was registered on June 26 based on a complaint filed by Head Constable Sandeep Pednekar of Anjuna Police Station.
The accused, identified as Rakesh Naresh Mohanty, a resident of Dhenkanal district in Odisha, was allegedly driving a Thar jeep (OD-04-W-5159) from Ozrant, Vagator, towards Anjuna on the morning of June 25.
Police said that at around 7.35 am, when the vehicle reached the T-junction near Lions Club House in Vagator, the accused allegedly drove onto the main Anjuna–Vagator road without due care and, while under the influence of alcohol, collided with an Ather scooter (GA-03-AX-6680) travelling from Arpora towards Vagator.
The rider, Shyamsundar Simepurushkar of Arpora, and the pillion rider sustained simple injuries in the crash.
Police further alleged that the accused fled the scene without arranging medical assistance for the injured or informing the police about the accident.
A case has been registered under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 134(a), 134(b), and 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The investigation is being conducted by HC Sandeep Pednekar of Anjuna Police Station.
