PANAJI: Minister for Environment Nilesh Cabral said that each individual should owe up responsibility when it comes to protecting the environment, and that is how we can all make a difference.
He spoke at the World Environment Day 2023 celebrations organized by Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) today at Saligao.
He said that power consumption has increased because of the floating population, adding that the Government has been encouraging the use of renewable energy like solar power in households, but this has yet to be welcomed widely at individual levels in Goa.
He stressed how it’s vital to work hand in hand to protect the earth and leave it a better place for the future generation.
Chairperson of GSPCB, Mahesh Patil, spoke of how living sustainably was the need of the hour and stressed the shared common responsibilities of citizens to protect the environment. Member Secretary Dr Shamila Monteiro proposed the vote of thanks.
Earlier, winners of the quiz and poster competition held during the World Environment Day celebrations were handed over prizes. The dignitaries released the GSPCB Annual Report 2022-23.
The inaugural function was followed by a workshop on the legal aspects and management of single-use plastics
