PANAJI: The FDA has imposed penalty on eight food business operators for manufacturing and selling standard and mis-branded cashew nuts.
In one case filed by Food Safety Officer, Miss. Safia Khan, was decided with a fine of Rs. 50,000/-, imposed on (ii) Shri Jagadish Chowdhary. M/s Goa Cashew Palace, Shop No. 648/B, Pinto Vaddo, Candolim, Bardez Goa for repacking and selling ‘Cashewnuts’, which were declared as “Sub-Standard’ & ‘Mis-branded”, on analysis due to the presence of kernels which are Superficially damaged, Shrivelled (deformed).
Spotted (Black and brown) and Speckled and having presence of testa more than the maximum Permissible limit.
Second case filed by Food Safety Officer, Smt Sonal Govenkar, fine of Rs. 10,000/- was imposed on M/s. Radha Kaju, Smt. Kanta Mechkar P. No. T 3/4, Khobra Vaddo, Calangute, Bardez Goa, for selling “Cashewnuts”, which was declared “Sub- Standard”, on analysis by the Food Analyst due to the sample contains kernels with superficial damage and are speckled and spotted (black and brown) more than the maximum Permissible limit under Regulation 2.3.47.7 of the Food and Standard (Food products Standards & Food Additives) Regulations 2011.
Third case filed by Food Safety Officer, Miss. Sujata Shetgaonkar, was decided with a fine of Rs. 20,000/-, each imposed on (1) M/s. Samikasha Cashew Industries. Shrungarwadi, TO-Watangi, Tal-Ajara, Ajra Kolhapur, Maharashtra (Manufacturer), (2) Shri. Mahendra Desai, M/s. Dollar Enterprises, Shop no. 1, H. No. E-162/E-1, Ella, Old Goa. Tiswadi Goa (Retailer/ Repacker/Marketer). (3) Smt. Asmita Desai, M/s. Dollar Kaju, H. No. 4/206 A/G/SP-14, Ward No. 04, Porba Waddo, Calangute, Bardez Goa (Retailer / Marketer).
FDA continues it’s Cashew Surveillance drive in Bardez taluka. The vendors were inspected earlier. They were informed to obtain a FSSAI license and warned not to indulge in selling substandard cashew.
However, in spite of the warning, vendors were found operating without a FSSAI license and were selling sub-standard cashew. Shops were found operating without a mandatory license
