BAMBOLIM: An elderly couple from Salvador do Mundo lost their lives after the scooter they were travelling on allegedly collided head-on with an Innova car while moving in the wrong direction on NH-66 near the Athletic Stadium at Bambolim in the early hours of Sunday.
According to Agacaim Police, information about the accident was received from an unidentified caller at around 4:36 a.m. ASI Ulhas Gaonkar registered MV Accident No. 52/2026 and rushed to the spot.
Police found that the accident involved an Innova car (GA-07-F-5982) and an Activa scooter (GA-03-AJ-5796). The rider and pillion rider of the scooter, who sustained serious injuries, were shifted to Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, for treatment.
During the inquiry, police found that the Activa scooter was allegedly travelling in the wrong direction on the carriageway meant for vehicles moving from Panaji towards Agacaim. Near the Athletic Stadium, it reportedly collided with the oncoming Innova driven by Jagdish Rathod, 23, a resident of Bijapur, Karnataka.
The scooter rider, Remigio S. Fernandes, 79, and the pillion rider, Paulina Fernandes, 65, both residents of Don Waddo, Salvador do Mundo, Bardez, sustained grievous injuries. Police later received information from GMC that both victims were declared dead in the casualty department.
LPSI Deepika Parwar conducted the inquest panchanama, and post-mortem examinations were carried out.
Further investigation into the accident is in progress.
