USGAO: A 71-year-old man from Usgao in Ponda died after falling through the asbestos roof of his house while carrying out cleaning work, police said.
According to Ponda Police, Rohidas Naik was cleaning the asbestos sheet on the roof of his residence at Usgao Tisk on June 25 when the sheet suddenly gave way, causing him to fall into the hall of the house.
His wife, Ranjaana Naik, told police that family members immediately rushed him to the Primary Health Centre at Dharbandora for treatment. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was referred to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Following the incident, police conducted an inquest panchanama and sent the body for post-mortem examination at SGDH.
The police surgeon certified the cause of death as damage to the head, chest and abdomen with underlying injuries to vital organs and multiple bone fractures caused by blunt force impact in an alleged fall from a height.
After the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.
An inquiry into the incident is being conducted by PSI Sushant Gaonkar of Ponda Police Station.
