PANAJI: Ten Goans and one person from Hyderabad have been detained by police for holding two persons from Hyderabad hostage and demanding a ransom to the tune of Rs 2.5 crore to Rs 3 crore from their employer.
The two victims were rescued from the clutches of the 11 accused from a bungalow at Bambolim in a joint operation by Goa and Hyderabad police. The matter came to light after Hyderabad police contacted Goa police today morning.
The victims were called to Goa in connection with negotiations for a mining shipment-related deal.
The accused were holding the victim hostage for extorting money from their Hyderabad-based employer and as arm twisting mechanism to make the Hyderabad party accept their terms of business, informed the police.
The main accused in the matter is Fatorda resident Altaf Shah Sayyad. He has links with the banned organisation PFI and has cases of unlawful activities registered against him, informed SP North Nidhin Valsan.
The other accused held by police from the Bambolim bungalow where the victims were held hostage include Sunil Nayak from Sanguem, Nikhil Patel from Shantinagar- Ponda, Shaffiulla from Margao, Jafar Sadiq Shaikh Hassan from Savordem, Sagar from Maupsa, Nishant from Porvorim, Aslam Sayyad from Margao, Saddiq Shaikh from Navelim-Shirvodem, Jose aldrin from Quepem and Tukaram Dhondge from Hyderabad. All the accused will be handed over to Hyderabad police, informed Valsan. Hyderabad police have registered cases against them under Sections 347, 387 and 34 of IPC.
