VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson has pledged to clear the road encroached by the fruit vendors at F.L.Gomes road. This move would partially solve the parking issue.
Vasco city is not new to the illegalities related to the encroachments and mess related to these footpath and road encroachments. People on a regular basis face parking problems, stray cattle issues, accidents, traffic congestion due to the encroachments of the road.
The same situation has cropped up at Vasco F.L.Gomes road. The fruit vendors who are doing their business by encroaching on the main road are actually leading to the traffic congestion, accidents and parking problems.
Sonakshi Adhia, a visitor who had come to Vasco for some work said that the Vasco being a port town should have been well planned. Unfortunately it looks like the parking issue has gone for a toss here. I am finding it hard to find a parking space in town.
Another person Mahesh Avkale said that when a city will have its dedicated parking space and encroachment free roads then there won’t be accidents, traffic jams etc.
Local municipality should keep watch on such encroachments and the fruits vendors kiosks, handcarts needs to be shifted elsewhere.
When contacted, Leo Rodrigues, Chairperson of MMC, he said that in next week the fruit vendors who are sitting on the F.L.Gomes road by encroaching the road will be be shifted inside the temporary market shed.
He said that the labourers are working in the space where these vendors will be shifted next week. The ground work is in progress. Once this stretch is vacated then it could be used as a parking space for the market Visitors, Rodrigues said.
