DHARBANDORA: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) will hold an environmental public hearing on October 22 over JSW Steel Ltd’s proposed iron ore mining project at Codli in Dharbandora.
The hearing will begin at 10 am at Shree Sateri Pisani Devasthan, Kalsai, Kirlapal-Dabal.
The proposed project involves an auctioned mineral block spread across 377.0681 hectares. According to the project proposal, the mine is planned to produce 3.50 million tonnes of iron ore annually, along with the removal of 6.21 million tonnes of overburden and waste. The total excavation is projected at 11.71 million tonnes per year.
The project also proposes setting up four crushers, a dry processing and screening plant, and a wet beneficiation plant as part of the mining and mineral-processing operations.
The public hearing will provide residents, affected persons and other stakeholders an opportunity to place their objections, views and suggestions on record.
Those wishing to make oral submissions at the hearing will have to register separately on the day between 9.30 am and noon.
Written representations can also be submitted to the Union Ministry of Environment and the GSPCB ahead of the scheduled public hearing.
The hearing forms part of the environmental clearance process for the proposed mining project, with public feedback to be considered as part of the proceedings.
