PANAJI: The Department of Excise, Government of Goa, seized duplicate liquor worth approximately ₹3.5 lakh during a surprise inspection at a wine store in Arpora as part of its ongoing crackdown on the sale of counterfeit liquor.
According to the department, the raid led to the detection and seizure of liquor suspected to have been intended for illegal sale. The operation was carried out to curb the circulation of duplicate liquor and protect public health and consumer interests.
The inspection was conducted by Superintendent of Excise Shamba Naik under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Excise Sohan Uskaikar and the guidance of Commissioner of Excise Asvin Chandru, IAS.
The Excise Department has launched a detailed investigation to trace the source of the seized liquor and identify those involved in the alleged illegal trade. Officials said appropriate legal action will be initiated under the relevant provisions of the law.
Reiterating its commitment to combating the manufacture, distribution and sale of illicit or duplicate liquor, the Department has urged the public to report any suspected illegal liquor-related activities.
