MARCEL: A resident of Marcel in Ponda was allegedly cheated of ₹3.52 lakh in an online investment scam after responding to a Facebook advertisement that promised high returns.
According to Mardol Police, complainant Shameer Devagiri, a resident near Holy Family Church, Marcel, originally from Haveri, Karnataka, stated that between January 1, 2025 and July 6, 2026, he came across an investment advertisement on Facebook and contacted the mobile number mentioned in it.
The accused allegedly assured the complainant that his money would be invested and would generate substantial profits. Trusting the promise, Devagiri transferred a total of ₹3,52,000 through multiple online transactions from his bank account.
After a few months, the accused allegedly became unreachable and the promised returns were never received, prompting the complainant to approach the police.
Mardol Police have registered a case of cheating, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Madhav Gaude.
