PANAJI: Saligao Police have busted a fake call centre operating from Verem in Bardez and arrested nine accused for allegedly cheating citizens of the United States through online fraud.
According to a complaint filed by PI Dinesh D. Gadekar of Saligao Police Station, the raid was conducted at Joeys Palace, Verem, between 10:30 PM on April 23 and 1:00 AM on April 24, 2026. The accused had allegedly set up a bogus call centre and were running an organised cyber fraud operation.
Police identified the accused as Sandipkumar Priyadarshi (Ahmedabad, Gujarat), Akash Kale (Mumbai, Maharashtra), Kavish Tharivala (Ahmedabad, Gujarat), Akshay Nair (Thane, Maharashtra), Hiren Bhayani (Mumbai, Maharashtra), Ajay Kishor Das (Kolkata, West Bengal), Tanmay Pawar (Mumbai, Maharashtra), Vikiho Yevishe Shohe (Dimapur, Nagaland), and Lhosheto Yeshito Rochil (Dimapur, Nagaland).
Investigations revealed that the accused procured personal data of US citizens through illegal means and contacted them by impersonating bank officials. They allegedly lured victims with offers of loans and technical assistance related to Apple software, convincing them to transfer money via electronic modes, including gift cards.
The fraudulently obtained money was later converted into Indian currency, police said.
An offence was registered at 2:59 AM on April 24, and further investigation is being carried out by PI Dinesh Gadekar.
