MOPA: A Pernem resident was allegedly cheated by a man posing as a Naga Sadhu, who is accused of making away with gold jewellery and cash after convincing the victim that he would bless the valuables.
According to police, the offence was registered on June 8, 2026, at 9:34 p.m. based on a complaint filed by Suryakant Mukund Vir (59), a resident of Panchasheel Nagar, Torxem, Pernem.
The complainant stated that between 9:00 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. on the same day, the accused, who was allegedly driving a car bearing registration number GJ-01-RB-0006, approached him while posing as a Naga Sadhu. By winning his confidence, the suspect allegedly persuaded him to hand over his gold chain, gold ring, and ₹2,600 in cash, claiming that the items would be blessed.
After obtaining the valuables, the accused allegedly fled from the spot without returning them.
Police have registered a case of cheating against the unknown accused, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Sagar Vazarkar of Mopa Airport Police Station.
