MARGAO: Margao Town Police have registered a cheating case after a jewellery shop owner was allegedly duped by a man who used a fake NEFT payment confirmation to steal a gold chain worth over ₹3.56 lakh.
According to the complaint lodged by Preetam Bandodkar, proprietor of Shree Sai Jewellers at New Market, Margao, the incident occurred on June 30, 2026, at around 11 am.
The accused, identified as Aditya Gaikwad, whose address is not known, allegedly posed as a genuine customer and took possession of a gold chain valued at ₹3,56,586.
He then showed a fake NEFT payment confirmation screenshot on his mobile phone to convince the shop owner that the payment had been made.
After obtaining the gold chain, the accused allegedly fled from the jewellery shop without making any payment, thereby cheating the complainant.
Margao Town Police have registered a case, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Subhash Gaonkar.
