BARDEZ: In a special early morning surveillance drive ahead of Diwali, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) inspected food businesses and checked intercity buses to monitor the safety and quality of food products entering Goa and those manufactured within the state for the festive season.
The operation covered various food business establishments, including bakeries and sweet manufacturing units, along with intercity buses suspected of carrying food consignments into Goa.
During the drive, FDA officials inspected a total of 12 food businesses and checked 15 intercity buses.
In a significant action, one food manufacturing unit was directed to suspend its operations after being found functioning under unhygienic conditions. The premises have been ordered to remain closed until the identified deficiencies are rectified and the required compliance is achieved.
The surveillance drive was aimed at ensuring food safety standards, maintaining product quality and preventing the sale or distribution of unsafe food items during the Diwali festive season.
The inspection team comprised Food Safety Officers Amit Mandrekar and Darlane Diukar, along with staff members Sandeep Shelke and Babaji Korkankar, working under the guidance of FDA Director Shweta Dessai.
