TALEIGAO: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has intensified surveillance across Goa to prevent the supply of substandard and unsafe food products, with officials stepping up checks at both the retail and supply-chain levels.
Acting on inputs from local vendors and following backtracking at the retail level, FDA officials intercepted a private vehicle from Belagavi at Taleigao carrying around 120 kg of sweets intended for distribution to vendors across Goa.
During the inspection, officials found that the supplier was operating without a valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence. In the interest of public health, the entire stock of sweets was subsequently destroyed.
The FDA said its intensified surveillance is aimed at identifying suppliers attempting to bypass enforcement checks, particularly those using private vehicles to transport food products into the state.
Officials said backtracking from retail outlets and inputs from local vendors have helped the department identify and disrupt such supply networks.
The FDA has reiterated that strict action will continue against suppliers and operators who compromise the quality and safety of food products reaching consumers in Goa.
