PANAJI: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has conducted a raid and seized a consignment of unlabelled pickles and imported cheese being transported from Maharashtra to Goa through inter-state passenger buses.
According to officials, around 450 kg of pickles were being brought to Goa for an exhibition. The pickles were found packed in barrels without proper labels or details required under food safety regulations.
The consignment was also reportedly being transported without the necessary bills and documents, raising concerns over the legality and traceability of the food products.
The FDA also seized imported cheese found in the consignment for alleged violations of food safety and labelling requirements.
Officials said the seized products did not carry mandatory information such as labelling and manufacturing details. The FDA has initiated an investigation to trace the suppliers and ascertain the distribution network involved in transporting the products into Goa.
The department is expected to take further action based on the findings of the investigation and applicable food safety regulations.
