CALANGUTE: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Goa has shut down a popular eatery in Calangute following serious hygiene violations and has taken action against vendors selling misleading food products.
Acting on a tip-off, an FDA team comprising Richard Noronha, Designated Officer (North Goa), Rajaram Patil, Senior Food Safety Officer, and Lenin De Sa, Food Safety Officer, conducted a surprise inspection at Ms. Hyderabad Dum Biryani located at Naika Wado, Calangute.
The officials found highly unhygienic conditions, including chicken being washed in a washroom. The premises were immediately closed for non-compliance with food safety norms.
In a related action, the FDA also cracked down on shops selling “chocolate analogue” products falsely labeled as chocolates, thereby misleading consumers.
A stock of such products was detained from a supplier, Nut Inn, who had previously been instructed to halt the sale of these deceptive items.
The FDA has issued a warning to all retailers, especially those operating in the coastal belt and tourist zones, urging them to immediately discontinue the sale of misleading food items.
The department has stated that violators will face strict legal action under the applicable food safety laws.
