CANACONA- A female Turtle trapped in a fishing net nearby to Galgibaga shore is rescued by Dhristi’s Life Savers and later released into the sea early Saturday morning.
According to Forest Departments rescuers at Galgibaga, an Angler who has gone for fishing on rocks between Galgibaga and Talpona shore, saw a turtle struggling to break free from a Fishing net (Maag) spread by fishermen previous day, and alerted the Forest Rescuers at Galgibaga Turtle Rehabilitation Centre.
The forest rescuers immediately sought the help of Life-Savers of Dhristhi Life Savings Services at Palolem to bring the trapped turtle on the shore. The life-savers from Palolem immediately swung into action and two life-savers came on a jet-ski and brought the trapped Turtle alongwith the fishing net on shore at Galgibaga.
Later, assisted by Forest Rescuers, the turtle was freed by cutting the fishing net, and as there were no physical injuries the female Turtle was released back into the sea.
According to the Forest Rescuers, the female turtle was on way to Galgibaga shore to lay eggs but was caught in the fishing net nearby the rocks portion of the north-side of Galgibaga sea-shore.
‘This mother will definitely come back to lay eggs either on the Galgibaga or Talpona shore later in the evening or at the night time.
Meanwhile, Galgibaga TRC erected its 27th Turtle Eggs pit after a mother turtle laid 134 eggs in the neighboring Talpona beach early Saturday morning at 5.15 am, Agonda TRC Nursery site continue its spree of turtle pits with 72nd and 73rd Pits with 120 eggs each early Saturday morning.-
