PANAJI: After over one and half month delay since the kick start of new tourism season, the State government has finally begun the process to allocate beach shacks along the coastal belt.
For the season 2023-26, a total number 364 beach shacks are permitted which include 259 in North Goa and 105 in South.
The maximum number of beach shacks are allowed in Calangute-Candolim stretch.
“The shack allotment process has begun at 10.30 nd will go all the way will 6 pm. The allotment is from Baga to Sinquerim,” said the official of tourism department.
Though allotment is for three years, the tourism department said the licence will be valid only for one year and will have to be renewed for each subsequent year.

Besides erection of shack structure, operators will also have to apply for deck beds and umbrellas along the beaches.
Of the 364 shacks, 34 will be allocated to applicants with experience of one to four years and another 34 are to be allocated to newcomers who want to get into the business.
The remaining 294 shacks will be allotted to experienced shack operators with experience of five years and above.
