Mumbai:
In a significant and unprecedented interaction, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with over 200 MLAs of the Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), in Mumbai on January 15, 2025. This meeting, held in the wake of the Mahayuti alliance’s landslide victory in the November 2024 Assembly elections, marked a crucial moment in the state’s political landscape.
The Prime Minister’s address was a call to action, emphasizing the importance of long-term development plans and preparations for the next local body elections. PM Modi advised the MLAs to formulate a five-year development plan for their respective constituencies, a strategy that aligns with the state’s ambitious goals, such as creating five lakh jobs in the next five years as announced by Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha.
PM Modi stressed the need for MLAs to be actively engaged with their constituents, recommending that they visit at least five gram panchayats every month to review the progress of various development works and understand the problems faced by the people. This approach, he emphasized, would help in fast-tracking the implementation of development and welfare schemes, thereby bridging the gap between the people and the government.
The Prime Minister also cautioned the MLAs against indulging in the practice of transferring government officers, which he noted could hinder administrative efficiency and tarnish their public image. Instead, he advised them to focus on expediting development work, maintaining proper coordination with government officers, and ensuring the timely implementation of state and central government schemes.
Health and family care were also highlighted as critical aspects of the MLAs’ responsibilities. PM Modi advised them to balance their time between constituency work and family, emphasizing the importance of regular medical check-ups and quality time with family members.
To bolster their electoral support, PM Modi suggested that the MLAs conduct periodic visits to villages and booths where they received fewer votes, aiming to mobilize more support and address the concerns of these areas. This strategy is part of the broader approach that contributed to the Mahayuti alliance’s success, partly attributed to PM Modi’s catchline “Ek Hain To Safe Hain” (If we unite, we are secure).
During his visit to Mumbai, PM Modi also commissioned three frontline naval combatants – INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer – and inaugurated the Sri Sri Radha Madanmohan temple in Navi Mumbai, further underscoring his commitment to various sectors of development.
The meeting was notable for the absence of NCP minister Dhananjay Munde, who is currently embroiled in a controversy surrounding his aide Walmik Karad’s arrest. This absence came amid demands for Munde’s resignation and the restructuring of the Beed district committee of the NCP.
As the BJP gears up for the upcoming local body elections, including the crucial BMC polls, PM Modi’s meeting with the Mahayuti MLAs underscored the party’s strategic focus on maintaining its political might and ensuring continued development and governance in Maharashtra.
