VASCO: Two passengers who landed at Dabolim airport were duped into Rs 7.70 lakh on the pretext of paying them taxi rent.
The fraudsters also stole three mobiles and other belongings of the duo.
According to sources in the Airport police, unknown culprits approached the passengers for enquiry requirement of a taxi on hire.
“During the proceedings of hiring a taxi without the knowledge of passengers, the fraudsters committed theft of black colour leather handbag containing in it cash of about Rs. 70,000/-, gold worth Rs.7,00,000 (Seven Lakhs), two mobile phones and ATM cards of Axis bank and Union bank which was kept on the carriage trolley along with other bags/belonging for personal gain,” said the source
Dabolim police registered an offence under sections 379 IPC, and Dabolim PI V N Patil is carrying out a further investigation under the guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
