PANAJI: In a significant political development, former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa State Convenor Rahul Mhambre on Tuesday joined the Indian National Congress at a function held at the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) headquarters in Panaji.
Rahul Mhambre was formally inducted into the party by GPCC President Girish Chodankar in the presence of senior Congress leaders, office-bearers, Youth Congress members and party workers. GPCC Working President Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira welcomed him with a bouquet, while GPCC Vice President Dr. Pramod Salgaonkar presented him with the Congress flag.
Welcoming Mhambre into the party, Chodankar said the Congress continues to be the preferred platform for those committed to democracy, constitutional values and the welfare of Goa. He expressed confidence that Mhambre’s experience and public outreach would strengthen the party’s organisation across the state.
Working President Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira said the Congress has always welcomed individuals committed to constitutional values, secularism and public service, adding that Mhambre’s induction would further strengthen the party.
Speaking after joining the Congress, Rahul Mhambre said he took the decision after careful consideration, believing that the Congress is the only credible alternative capable of protecting democracy, safeguarding Goa’s identity and addressing the real concerns of the people.
“I am honoured to join the Indian National Congress. I will work wholeheartedly to strengthen the party at the grassroots, unite like-minded people and fight for the rights, aspirations and future of every Goan,” Mhambre said.
The programme began with a welcome address by GPCC North Goa District President Adv. Shashank Narvekar. Senior leaders, including Tulio De Souza, Dr. Pramod Salgaonkar and Amarnath Panjikar, also addressed the gathering, stressing the need to strengthen the Congress organisation and work collectively for Goa’s progress.
The Congress said Rahul Mhambre’s induction is expected to further boost the party’s grassroots presence as it seeks to expand its organisation ahead of future political challenges.
