SANCOALE: Former Sancoale Deputy Sarpanch Darrick Vales inaugurated a newly constructed culvert in Sancoale on Thursday, completing the project at his own expense and dedicating the facility to local residents on the occasion of his birthday.
The culvert was constructed to address a long-standing demand of residents who had been facing difficulties while commuting through the area, particularly during the monsoon. In the absence of a proper crossing, people were earlier required to negotiate a deep stream of flowing water, creating both inconvenience and safety concerns.
Vales said the issue had remained unresolved despite repeated requests from residents. He said he had earlier assured the locals that if the authorities and elected representatives failed to address the problem, he would personally take up the work and bear the cost of constructing the culvert.
He said he decided to honour that commitment and ensure that residents were provided with a safer and more convenient passage.
Speaking at the inauguration, Vales said completing the project on his birthday made the occasion particularly significant for him. He described the culvert as his “return gift” to society, adding that he was satisfied that a long-pending need of the local community had finally been addressed.
Residents welcomed the initiative and thanked Vales for taking up the project and completing the much-needed infrastructure facility at his own expense.
