MORMUGAO: The foundation stone for a new 20-bedded Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Mormugao was laid on Sunday, marking a major step towards strengthening accessible, affordable and quality healthcare in Goa.
The modern healthcare facility, to be developed at a cost of over ₹26 crore, will provide a wide range of medical services, including multi-speciality outpatient departments (OPDs), emergency casualty care, a 10-bed dialysis unit, maternity and paediatric care, diagnostic facilities, physiotherapy, AYUSH services, a wellness centre and a total capacity of 41 beds.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries said the new Primary Health Centre reflects the Government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure at the grassroots and ensuring quality medical services are available closer to people’s homes.
The event was attended by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Calangute MLA and GSIDC Chairman Michael Lobo, Mormugao MLA and SIDCGL Chairman Sankalp Amonkar, Chief Secretary Dr. V. Candavelou, IAS, Health Secretary Yatindra M. Maralkar, IAS, Mormugao Municipal Council Administrator Jayant Tari, Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik, Director of Health Services Dr. Rupa Naik, senior government officials and other dignitaries.
The speakers also appreciated the efforts of the Health Department, Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) and all stakeholders involved in taking forward the healthcare infrastructure project.
The new PHC is expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery in Mormugao by bringing comprehensive and affordable medical services closer to the local population.
