PONDA: Ponda Police have registered a case against four truck owners and another accused for allegedly illegally extracting and transporting river sand without lawful authority or permit.
According to the state complaint filed by PSI Krishna Gawas, the incident occurred at around 2:39 am on July 19, 2025, at Simer, Vazangal, Shiroda, Ponda.
Police alleged that the accused — Mario Colaco and Johny Ivon Colaco, both residents of Panchawadi, Ponda, Siddharth Tilve of Bagwada, Curchorem, and Flaviano Estibeiro of Panchawadi, Ponda — were found in possession of trucks loaded with illegally extracted river sand.
During the investigation, police found that the sand had allegedly been extracted from the river by Sujay Gaonkar, a resident of Mapa, Panchawadi, without any valid permit or legal authority.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Ashish Velip of Ponda Police Station.
