MORMUGAO: In a major step towards strengthening emergency response and community welfare services, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Sunday launched a free ambulance, a hearse van and two mobile morgues for the benefit of residents across the constituency. The initiative has been undertaken in association with the Rotary Club of Kolhapur Evolve and the Rotary Club of Vasco Port Town.
The newly launched services will be available free of cost to the public, with the aim of ensuring timely assistance during medical emergencies as well as support to families during difficult times. To make the services easily accessible, Amonkar also launched a dedicated 24×7 helpline number — 9706333108 — through which residents can seek assistance at any time of the day or night.
Addressing the gathering, Amonkar described the initiative as a significant milestone in public service and said it was designed to bridge a crucial gap in emergency healthcare and mortuary support within the constituency. He noted that access to prompt medical transportation can often make the difference between life and death during emergencies.
“Ambulance services play a vital role in saving lives. Timely medical intervention during the golden hour is critical for patients suffering from accidents, cardiac emergencies and other life-threatening conditions. This service has been introduced to ensure that people receive immediate help when they need it the most,” Amonkar said
“With the launch of the ambulance, hearse van, mobile morgues and round-the-clock helpline, the constituency has taken a significant step towards improving emergency preparedness and ensuring that critical assistance is available whenever required.” added Amonkar
He added that while emergency healthcare remains a priority, the hearse van and mobile morgues would also provide much-needed support to bereaved families by easing logistical difficulties during times of loss.
Residents and community members welcomed the launch, describing it as a valuable addition to the constituency’s public service infrastructure. The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of people across Mormugao by providing reliable emergency transportation and mortuary services without any financial burden on families.
