PANAJI: The life and legacy of Goan football great Brahmanand Sankhwalkar take centre stage in From Goalpost To Glory, a documentary created by Sharvi Dhond and Poonam Bind that looks beyond the football field to explore the sport’s enduring place in Goa’s cultural landscape.
For Dhond, who has previously worked in the fiction genre, the documentary marks his first venture into non-fiction filmmaking. He has directed and anchored the film, while Poonam Bind has handled cinematography and editing.
Rather than presenting Sankhwalkar’s career solely through his sporting achievements, the documentary places his journey within the broader history of football in Goa.
The film examines how the sport has influenced communities, shaped memories and become closely associated with the state’s social and cultural identity.
A key historical reference in the documentary is Goa’s memorable run in the 1983 Santosh Trophy, when Goa and Bengal shared the title.
