PONDA: Last weekend, JCB machines involved in road digging near Sai Service damaged the water line, causing water shortages for Curti and Ape-Priol areas.
Locals were irked as they saw lakhs of litre going to waste when they needed severely to meet the summer heat.
The Kavlem locals also complained of frequent damage to water pipelines.
The Pondaitees, too, complained of similar problems. Viraj Sapre said there needs to be supervision by PWD Officials, and the Contractor involved in damage must be paying for water and power lines.
Naresh Naik at Apewal said the Contractor should start digging in the presence of PWD Supervisors and with plumbers to repair the lines immediately.
Meanwhile, the PWD Officials said the Pipeline damaged by GED Contractor is supplying water at Curti.
The Ponda locals are irked over ongoing Goa Electricity Department (GED) digging work on the road for laying underground power cabling that has been found to frequently break, damaging water lines and has been causing water shortages in the extreme summer.
The locals are already furious over road digging at the onset of monsoon, and to add to this water shortage caused due to digging.
