PANAJI: The Sinquerim Sports Club GFDC Poira Centre organised a football jersey distribution programme at the Chowgule Company Ground on Wednesday, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing young football talent through grassroots development.
The event was attended by Premendra Shet, Chairman of the Goa State Horticultural Corporation, as the chief guest. Also present were GFDC Assistant Technical Director Lawjyo Gomes, Sinquerim Sports Club President Sunil Govekar, former Mayem Vaiguenim Sarpanch Vishwas Chodankar, Poira High School physical education teacher Alok Kouthambikar, Sesa Academy coach Anand Adpaikar and Centre Head Laxman Hadfadkar. Parents and trainees also participated in the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Premendra Shet praised the Goa Football Development Council for its efforts in promoting football among children and thanked Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar for supporting the establishment of the training centre. He said the development of three football grounds in the Mayem constituency had strengthened the sport in the region and benefited aspiring players.
Shet urged the young footballers to remain dedicated to their training, emphasising that discipline, regular practice and clear goals are essential for success. He encouraged them to develop their stamina and skills through daily hard work while maintaining a healthy lifestyle and learning from their coaches.
Lawjyo Gomes also motivated the trainees to stay committed to their football journey and dream of representing India. He highlighted that discipline and consistency are key qualities shared by world class footballers and encouraged the children to watch matches, learn from experienced players and give their best during every training session.
Congratulating the girls from the Poira Centre for finishing runners up at the Khelo India competition, Gomes described the achievement as a reflection of their dedication and regular practice. He assured the young footballers that the GFDC would continue supporting their development and expressed confidence that future India players would emerge from the centre.
