MARGAO: Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira, is the second MLA from the taluka to be approached by the Global Konkani Forum (GKF), which is leading a campaign to demand equal status for Konkani in Roman script.
This comes after the MLA from Curtorim, Reginaldo Lourenco, was called by GKF earlier this week.
The Environment Minister, speaking for the Nuvem constituency, has consented to meet with GKF representatives on September 27 at the South Goa Collectorate in Margao, according to Forum President Kennedy Afonso.
He stated that two delegations from the Nuvem constituency and the GKF will be calling on the MLA to introduce two legislation supporting Roman script that will be proposed and approved in the upcoming Assembly in December.
The first measure would amend the Official Language Act to add Roman script in addition to Devnagari, while the second would add Konkani in Roman script to the curriculum starting in first grade and continuing until tenth grade.
“The Forum is positive that the MLA of Nuvem constituency will surely stand by the people of Nuvem constituency, and Goans, knowing full well that his people have passed resolutions in almost all villages in his constituency, and over 50 gram Sabhas across pan Goa,” the GKF said in a statement thanking the MLA for the appointment.
