PANAJI: The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Goa Legislative Assembly will hold its meeting on July 7 to plan the legislative work for the monsoon session, which will run for 15 days starting July 21.
Chaired by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, the BAC comprises Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao, and one representative each from the MGP, GFP, RGP, as well as an independent MLA.
The session’s major agenda item will be the approval of the State Budget for 2025–26, presented in the House on March 26.
Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao has criticised the government for convening the BAC meeting after the Governor has already summoned the session, arguing that it undermines the purpose of the committee. “Normally, the BAC meets before the session is fixed. Now the dates are already announced, making the meeting redundant,” he said.
Alemao claimed the BAC had turned into a mere formality, with the government routinely rejecting opposition proposals. He also expressed concern over the reduced duration of the session, pointing out that last year’s monsoon sitting lasted 18 days, while this year’s has been cut to 15.
He said the Opposition will use the session to expose what it calls the government’s corruption, poor governance, and neglect of public welfare.
